Product Reviews

I am reviewing a few new products I have recently gotten. The top two pictured above I received in my May ipsy bag. For those that don’t know ipsy is a monthly subscription service for 10 dollars a month you receive a new cosmetic bag and 4-5 products. I love this because it opens me up to new brands that I might not try or typically purchase. I do like to use it to decide if I would like to purchase a full sized version of the product if I liked it.

The first product I got to try is the eva nyc therapy session hair mask. I immediately loved the way it smelled. It’s almost like a perfume but not too overpowering. I never blow dry my hair unless I’m in a hurry or during the colder months since I do dye my hair often I try to use as little heat as possible. After using it for the first time once my hair was dry there was a very noticeable difference in the overall softness of my hair. So anything that smells amazing and makes my hair baby soft is a winner for me.

So I now have the full size purchased from Ulta along with the oil treatment that it recommends. The oil has the same scent as the hair mask and it doesn’t make my hair greasy after applying. It also protects your hair if you do use heat. I love these products and will definitely be getting them again in the future. The only complaint I have is it doesn’t help when it comes to tangles. My hair is very long all the way down my back and it tangles quite easy. Usually when using a hair mask treatment it is very easy to comb out my hair afterwards but it almost feels as though I didn’t use any conditioner at all. But as I said my hair does come out incredibly soft after it is completely dry. Much softer than with any other mask I have tried. So it does take a bit more time combing through but it’s worth it for the results for me. I think someone with much shorter hair wouldn’t have this problem.

The second product I got in my bag that I fell in love with is the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer. Again with the smell of things this smells like a delicious chocolate bar. Reason being is that it is infused with coco powder how cool is that!? It is so smooth and even on my pale skin it looks very nice not muddy and blends perfectly. This product made me want the Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette.

The colors in this palette are gorgeous and so very wearable. You can do office appropriate day looks or a beautiful smokey eye for night. The eyeshadows also have a wonderful chocolate scent to them. There are 16 shades several of them are matte while the others have a nice shimmer. Two of the shades are larger as you can see in the picture the top is matte and the bottom is a shimmer and works great as a highlighter for your face. I have no complaints for this palette. You get such a variety of colors from golds to pinks and rich browns. You can get this palette for slightly cheaper than any of the urban decay naked palettes and you get more shades. I love my naked palettes but this one is right there with them. The shadow is so smooth just like the bronzer and blends so effortlessly. I look forward to doing looks with this palette for you guys soon!

If you have tried any of these products let me know your thoughts on them I always love feedback 🙂

Lorde Tennis Court Makeup

I have been wanting to do this makeup for so long now so I finally have. This is not a step by step tutorial since the look is so simple but just sharing with you guys 🙂

The milkmaid braids are very easy to do. You just create a braid on each side of your head as far down as you can you don’t want too much remaining hair at the end so that you can easily hide it. You could part your hair right down the center but in the video she had it parted to the side so that’s what I’ve done. Then you just wrap each braid around the top and pin in place. When you’re braiding make sure to braid out from your head not straight down as it will make it easier to wrap it.

For my foundation I used L’Oreal true match lumi in w1-2 and set it with L’Oreal hydra perfect loose powder in translucent 916. I don’t care for the foundation much but am in love with the powder it has a very nice scent almost like perfume but is not too much. For my lips I used Revlon super lustrous lipstick in the shade black cherry. Her lipstick was much darker but this is the darkest I could get my hands on so I dabbed a bit of a matte black eyeshadow over it and blended. For my eyes I used my Mac paint pot in painterly and put a warm coral color and blended it out with a bit of a matte brown. I then took the matte brown under my lashes and applied some white eyeliner on my lower water line and some mascara but not too much.

Balancing A Geeky Life

Image

The diagram above is interesting and kind of cute, but I have a question for everyone. Is anyone else 2 or more of these geeks at the same time? — Thought so.  😉

I hope I’m not the only geek that feels as if I’m being tugged in several different directions when it comes to hobbies, interests, and life in general. I think as geeks we feel strongly about multiple things in life. Sure, some of us have one thing we are intensely passionate about, but geeks are most certainly multifaceted. This makes something as simple as choosing what to do on our day off a tad frustrating.

I.E.: “Should I read my new book or play that video game? Paint or go outside for a walk? Go shopping, or sketch?” – Britney’s Inner Dialogue

Why am I thinking about how to balance my life? Well, my boyfriend made a statement a couple of days ago that has my wheels turning.

He said, “It’s hard — I have to keep up with your geeky side and your girly side.”

I laughed when he said that. It’s most definitely true. The unfortunate thing for him is that those are only two sides of my multifaceted geek personality. It would be insane to try to stereotype me into any one category. In fact, it’d look something like this:

City born, country raised, video game playing, book reading, nature loving, pet addicted, painting, drawing, dancing, social drinking, culture fascinated, card game playing, make up and dress wearing, shopping fanatic, sports watching.. And ok, I give up.

Question is, how in the world does one balance the facets of their geeky personality?

To this day I am trying to figure this one out. Most of the time I end up looking like one of those people that can never stick with one hobby or see one thing through. That’s not the case at all. So far, my interests have been on a constantly revolving wheel. I spin it, pick something, go with it for a while, then spin the wheel again. It’s not as though I will never come back to it or that I’ve lost interest.

Theory #1 – The Revolving Wheel

Like I’ve said, spin the wheel to an interest, take it up, engage it, put it back, and spin again.

This is all I’ve got, folks. I’ve toyed with some other ideas.. like scheduling set times to do certain things on certain days during the week. I suppose if one was more structured that may work out.

I really want to know what everyone has to say about this. This is less of a stated piece and more or a, “Tell me what you think!” Please? Lol.

——-

On a girlier note, I dyed my hair. Due to Autumn rolling around, I went redder which tends to suit my paler skin and green eyes. Can anyone say Scottish? It does run in my blood, peoples. Hope y’all like it!

Fairy Tales and Mermaid Scales

Mer 5
Hello everyone it’s Kelly and I’m proud to introduce to you all our first Makeup Monday! Every Monday we will have a new post on beauty whether it be a tutorial or review we will try our hardest to bring you guys something new every Monday.

Today I’m doing a mermaid themed look as we are beginning to dive into summer I thought that it was an appropriate and fun theme. If you would like to see how just keep scrolling if I’ve made anything difficult to understand please feel free to comment below and I would be more than happy to answer any questions. I will also have a product list at the bottom of the post. 🙂

Mer 20
First I’m starting out with just a matte white shade over my entire lid and a pale gold shimmer in the inner corner and the the inner part of the lid stopping halfway in.

Mer18
Now you want to take a pale green and put it on the outer half of the lid meeting the gold shade in the center and using a shader brush you just want to blend them together in the center to get rid of any harsh lines.

Mer16
Take a dark shade of green and using a crease brush the technique I use is dotting it up a little and then sweeping it over pushing into the crease as I’m making this motion and blending it out softening any harsh edges.

Mer13
This is what it should look like after you’ve done that you can add a bit more into the crease if you like just remember to blend it out.

Mer 11
Now I’m taking a pale gold glitter and just patting it all over my lid extending up to my brow bone.

Mer 9
Take a white eyeliner and line your lower water line. I also took a gold liquid liner and put it below the water line near the inner corner and pushed a dark gold glitter shadow on top.

ekfjlskdjkf
Take a black liquid liner and line your upper lash line making the line thinner towards the inner corner and extending a little past.

Mer 1
To create the wing I used a gel liner and brush making the line thick then getting lighter with your hand to make a sharp point going straight across.

mer 2
Right on top of that wing make a flick with your brush and create a second slightly smaller wing.

Mer 3
Now going almost halfway on your lower water line use the gel liner.

gjkfsjgslfd
All that’s left is add the mascara you can use any color you wish but I chose this pretty blue I felt it went well with the green.

Mer 8
I curled my hair just wrapping it around the curler to give it a more beachy look. My headband I made myself if you would like to know how I can post the link to the youtube tutorial to crochet it just ask 🙂 and my dress is Chelsea and Violet from dillards. One thing I forgot to put was I put a peachy shade right on my brow bone to high light. You also want to highlight your face on your cheekbones, chin, cupids bow and nose to give yourself a dewy glow. I hope you enjoyed this any comments or suggestions for future Makeup Monday posts please just comment below.

Bang Twist Tutorial

Another favorite thing of mine is the bang twist! I often have bangs, whether blunt or side-sweep so they do get aggravating at times. This crazy simple twist gets them out of your face and in such a cute way. Not to mention, it’s an easy alternative for those who haven’t figured out how to braid their own hair.

*Ahem* Me.

So here are a few pictures of my bangs twisted, and then I’m going to post the video of the tutorial where I got the idea from. She shows you quite clearly how it’s done, and all the credit goes to BabesinHairland @ Youtube!
