Fall Favorites

I have done a couple of favorite posts before and have not done one for fall. It has been awhile since I’ve posted so I thought it would be the perfect time.

ff1

1. Pumpkin Latte & Marshmallow spray from Bath and Body Works $14

This stuff smells like absolute heaven! I love fall scents the best and especially pumpkin. This doesn’t smell too much like that general pumpkin scent but it’s definitely there. It overall has just a very warm smell with yummy coffee notes that is the epitome of fall and I have gotten so many compliments on it. I will have to stock up before the season lets out!

ff4

2. Not Your Mother’s Lock Luster Oil Treatment from Ulta $5.99

My hair gets super dry this time of year and dyeing it doesn’t help so to soften it right back up and give it the moisture it needs this is my go to hair oil. It’s inexpensive, smells great and doesn’t leave my hair greasy.

ff6

3. Mac Pigment Mauvement $21 from Mac Cosmetics

As much as I hate to show you guys a discontinued shade this is my ultimate favorite pigment for foiling over my shadows in the fall. It appears more gold to brown in person rather than purple in my opinion. Other similar shades I’ve seen on their site to get the same effect are rose gold and blonde’s gold they both have frost finishes. I just use my mac fix+ spray on my brush and dab it over my shadows to make them really pop.

ff5

4. Essie Mink Muffs from Ulta 8.99

Beautiful milk chocolate brown nail color perfect for fall. I like pairing it with greens to make it really stand out.

ff8

5. Mac Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy from Mac Cosmetics for $16

You can see I have a pattern with the brown shades. I’ve tried other matte nudes by mac but this one is by far the best I usually pair it with my spice liner also by mac or if I want an especially dark lip I pair it with my mahogany liner.

What are some products you can’t live without this fall? Let me know! Or if you use any of these products let me know how the do for you. Thank you for reading and happy fall everyone!

Alice and Cheshire Cat Makeup

wonderland1

These are photos straight from my instagram it isn’t a tutorial I just wanted to share with you guys 🙂 I saw a youtube video for makeup like this by Lucyxx84 and I think her makeup is so beautiful and it inspired me to create this look. I have been wanting to do more cosplay/costume makeup for a while now and decided to practice with this today.

wonderland3

I didn’t do the same colors as the Tim Burton Cheshire cat I wanted to stick with the colors of the animated Alice and I am very pleased with how it turned out. I have many different brands and types of makeup on but the main product I use when doing costume makeup is my NYX jumbo pencil in milk. I have very sensitive skin so I don’t want to use face paint so I love that the NYX pencil is so creamy so I can use it on my entire face as I’ve done in the past with my sugar skull makeup or as a base for my eye makeup. It’s also good to put on your lips on top of your lipstick to add dimension and just blend it out. For all of the lines I make I use a thin tipped liquid liner pen and go back over with pencil and black shadow. For my hair I just pin curled it and let it set while I did my makeup.

Please let me know your thoughts on this look and if you would like to see more cosplay/costume makeup looks with in depth tutorials and if you would what are some characters you would like to see. I am always open to suggestions. 🙂

Summer Beauty Favorites

As the seasons change so do the contents of our makeup bags. This is a simple list of my favorite products for summer, where you can find them and what they typically cost. Some are budget friendly and others are splurges. These are all products I have myself and would buy them all again.

bb5

1. Baby Lips $3 Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drug stores

I love the baby lips line and the clear is my favorite. Along with the other shades it has a very yummy cent. Oddly this one smells like fruity pebbles to me but I like fruity pebbles so I don’t mind a bit. I have tried so many lip balms because my lips chap so badly no matter the season or weather but with this they are so soft and it gives them a nice shine.

bb4

2. Baby Skin $6 Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drug stores

I recently purchased this product and I love it. It has a similar texture to smashbox photo ready primer and also feels similar to the porefessional by benefit cosmetics. It blurs away your pores and makes my skin even so that my foundation sets smoothly. It’s very nice to find a product like my high end ones so that I don’t have to spend the extra cash. If you have larger pores I definitely recommend this product.

3. Mac lipstick in Sunny Seoul $16 Any Mac counter near you my local shop is inside of Dillards

I purchased this lipstick online and I admit I got it for its name and it also seemed like a nice shade of pink. This easily became my favorite spring and into summer color. It is a sheer pink with a bit of a shimmer to it but not too much. It isn’t heavy so it’s great for work or if you are out and about. The formula feels very light so it’s perfect for hot days so you still have nice color without feeling caked on.

4. Mac Fix+ $21 Any Mac counter near you my local shop is inside of Dillards

I use this spray to set my makeup and it gives you a nice dewy glow. It isn’t just water it is packed with vitamins and minerals and is wonderful for refreshing your face.

bb8

5. Farmhouse Fresh Fluffy Bunny Hand Cream $14 I purchased this at a local boutique but no worries the company has an online shop

This is my favorite hand lotion and I know I keep using the term light but that is summer for me. I want my products to be as light as possible and this just melts into your hands and leaves them silky soft with a nice lavender scent.

bb6

6. L’Oreal Miss Manga Mascara $8 Target, Walmart, Ulta, and most drug stores

No matter the season you always need a great mascara and this is my new favorite. Again with the name! How could I not get it!? The packaging is very cute and I am so impressed with this product. I have tried everything from benefit cosmetics they’re real mascara to makeup forever and they do not compare. Now this is my own personal opinion but it applies so much better than my more expensive brand mascaras. Even one coat is a dramatic difference and it is easily removable. I hope they do not discontinue this product.

bb3

7. St. Ives Pink Lemon and Mandarin Orange Scrub $4  Target, Walmart, and most drug stores

You can’t forget about skin care and this is my favorite scrub at the moment. It has a nice citrus scent and always leaves my face feeling soft and very clean.

bb7

8. Sun Beam by benefit cosmetics $26 Ulta and Sephora

This is a beautiful highlight for summer as our skin is a bit more tan or if your like me still pale as ever but would like a nice glow with a touch of color this product is wonderful. It’s a gorgeous pale golden shimmer but not to where it looks as though you’re applying glitter to your face. It just gives you a nice dewy summer sun kissed look.

Have any of you tried these products and what are your thoughts on them I would love your feedback!  Also let me know what your summer essentials are and the products you can’t go without 🙂

Beauty on a Budget

I decided last week that I would break my habit of purchasing the more expensive make-up brands for the smaller tools of my make-up routine. After browsing the web and asking my fellow co-bloggers for advice, I stopped by Walgreens to try the following make-up.

Revlon

WP_20140608_049

I’m using Revlon’s Photoready Concealer per Kelly’s suggestion, and I love it. The container, as you can see, lets you apply it like lipstick. You don’t need to use a lot, nor do you use too much since it’s not liquid. All you need to do to finish is use your finger to even it out. The coverage is smooth enough so that it doesn’t gather in your crinkles (not wrinkles!), but it does last all day and evening without having to reapply.

I was on the prowl for new liquid eyeliner too. I did use Estee Lauder’s in the past, but in order to save a few bucks I decided to test Revlon’s Skinny Liquid Liner. I haven’t had good experiences with other inexpensive liners, but this one wins my stamp of approval. It has a super thin applicator tip that allows for very fine lines, and after the first full day and night it stayed in place. It will smear if you get it wet and then rub it, but it won’t run simply from being wet. It lasted through a full day’s worth of my worst allergies, so it’s good stuff.

Retail Prices (Walgreens):

Revlon Photoready Concealer:  $10.79

Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner:  $7.99

Milani

WP_20140608_050

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt the need the fill out my brows. I’m a natural dark blonde and so my eyebrows are sparse and fairly light. I think that nicely shaped full brows are what make a face, so to speak. Now I’ve always used a fine tipped pencil, but I’ve heard a lot of women say they use brow powder and/or gel.

Hence my recent purchase of Milani’s Brow Fix Kit and Brow Tint Pen. First I’d like to say that Milani’s Brow Fix Kit is a little bundle of awesome. It has three hues of powder. One hue is for highlighting, and the other two fill the brows. A magnified mirror and three tools come within as well: Angled brush, sponge tip, and teeny tweezers. You might think this is overkill, and normally I never use the miniature tools in these silly little kits. With this one, I do! I tweeze away the randoms, highlight with sponge tip, and fill with the angled brush all while using that nifty built in mirror. As for quality of the make-up, the powders really cling to the skin well and I don’t have to reapply during the day.

For a really defined look, I also purchased Milani’s Brow Tint Pen. This pen has a super tiny tip that allows you to get a more defined yet natural look. It really helps with the areas of my brow that are sparse as the tiny marks it leaves looks just like tiny hairs. The gel also helps the powder stick better and helps the whole look last longer. Good for a night out on the town!

Retail Prices (Walgreens):

Milani Brow Fix Brow Kit:  $6.79

Milani Brow Tint Pen:  $6.49

Let me know if you have any suggestions for good quality inexpensive make-up products!

Product Reviews

pr4

I am reviewing a few new products I have recently gotten. The top two pictured above I received in my May ipsy bag. For those that don’t know ipsy is a monthly subscription service for 10 dollars a month you receive a new cosmetic bag and 4-5 products. I love this because it opens me up to new brands that I might not try or typically purchase. I do like to use it to decide if I would like to purchase a full sized version of the product if I liked it.

The first product I got to try is the eva nyc therapy session hair mask. I immediately loved the way it smelled. It’s almost like a perfume but not too overpowering. I never blow dry my hair unless I’m in a hurry or during the colder months since I do dye my hair often I try to use as little heat as possible. After using it for the first time once my hair was dry there was a very noticeable difference in the overall softness of my hair. So anything that smells amazing and makes my hair baby soft is a winner for me.

pr3

So I now have the full size purchased from Ulta along with the oil treatment that it recommends. The oil has the same scent as the hair mask and it doesn’t make my hair greasy after applying. It also protects your hair if you do use heat. I love these products and will definitely be getting them again in the future. The only complaint I have is it doesn’t help when it comes to tangles. My hair is very long all the way down my back and it tangles quite easy. Usually when using a hair mask treatment it is very easy to comb out my hair afterwards but it almost feels as though I didn’t use any conditioner at all. But as I said my hair does come out incredibly soft after it is completely dry. Much softer than with any other mask I have tried. So it does take a bit more time combing through but it’s worth it for the results for me. I think someone with much shorter hair wouldn’t have this problem.

The second product I got in my bag that I fell in love with is the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer. Again with the smell of things this smells like a delicious chocolate bar. Reason being is that it is infused with coco powder how cool is that!? It is so smooth and even on my pale skin it looks very nice not muddy and blends perfectly. This product made me want the Too Faced Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette.

pr2 pr1

The colors in this palette are gorgeous and so very wearable. You can do office appropriate day looks or a beautiful smokey eye for night. The eyeshadows also have a wonderful chocolate scent to them. There are 16 shades several of them are matte while the others have a nice shimmer. Two of the shades are larger as you can see in the picture the top is matte and the bottom is a shimmer and works great as a highlighter for your face. I have no complaints for this palette. You get such a variety of colors from golds to pinks and rich browns. You can get this palette for slightly cheaper than any of the urban decay naked palettes and you get more shades. I love my naked palettes but this one is right there with them. The shadow is so smooth just like the bronzer and blends so effortlessly. I look forward to doing looks with this palette for you guys soon!

If you have tried any of these products let me know your thoughts on them I always love feedback 🙂

V-day Makeup With Naked 3

I have not posted in forever! I am so sorry but I promise to post more! With Valentines day coming up this Friday I thought I would do a date night look using my naked 3 palette which is perfect for this occasion because of all of the beautiful blush tones.

vday1

Jumping right into it I used Urban Decay primer potion in Eden all over my lids and a bit under my waterline. Then I used my Nyx jumbo pencil in milk. Not all over my lid but just where I’m going to apply my highlight in my inner corner and on my brow bone later.

vday2

The colors don’t show well on camera but they’re more vibrant in person. I used the shade Limit from Naked 3 all over my lid and then used Nooner in my crease with a fluffy brush and blended out.

vday3

Here right on top of Limit I packed on the shade Mugshot.

vday4

Then I used Darkside on a pencil brush for more precise placement in the outer v of my eye and brought it down on the outer third.

vday5

I picked up more of Darkside on a fluffy brush and put it into my crease and blended it out.

vday6

Here I put Blackheart on top of Darkside just on the outer third and blended out. Then used the same shade under my lower lash line. After that I sprayed my brush with mac fix plus and applied Dust to the center of my lid. I highlighted my brow bone with the shade strange and for the inner corner I used Venus from the Naked Basics palette.

vday7

Then to finish up I just lined my lower waterline a third of the way with a black pencil from Bareminerals and lined my upper lash line with Maybelline line stiletto making a cateye because I can’t be without it and used Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real mascara 🙂

vday10

For my cheeks I used Bareminerals blush in Exhilarate and highlighted with Benefit Cosmetics High Beam. For my lips I first lined them with a pencil from Maybelline in Rose and then used a satin lipstick by Mac Cosmetics in the shade Faux. Right on top of that I used the lightest gloss from Em Cosmetics shade play lip palette in Mix it up Roses.

vday8

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines day! Have any of you tried the Naked 3 palette? If so let me know what you think! Also I know I haven’t done a geeky post in awhile but I’ve been meaning to review all the manga I’ve been reading lately so I will hopefully get that on here later this week 🙂 -Kelly
